Apple Pruning – Seasonal Orchard Work (June – August)
Join our orchard team and help prepare apple trees for next season’s crop. As a pruner, you’ll use secateurs, loppers, saws, or electronic pruners to shape trees to the grower’s requirements. This usually involves removing upright annual wood, branches that are too close to the ground, or wood that is too large. You’ll also clear away broken branches and diseased wood such as European canker.
For larger cuts, you’ll apply a protective sealant to prevent disease. Pruning is detailed work that requires care to protect the health of the trees and ensure the best possible fruit production. You’ll receive instructions and guidance from the Quality Supervisor to make sure standards are met.
The role also involves the use of ladders to reach different parts of the tree, so comfort and awareness when working at height are important.
If you enjoy hands-on, outdoor work, can follow directions closely, and take pride in shaping healthy, productive trees, this role could be a great fit for you.
