People and RSE Adviser Job Part-time

People and RSE Adviser Job (0.8 FTE, Part-time)

Wai-West Horticulture is a large, locally owned horticultural business growing apples, kiwifruit, boysenberries and feijoas across the Nelson/Tasman region. Our success depends on a diverse workforce of permanent, fixed-term, casual, seasonal and Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) employees.

We are seeking an experienced and approachable People and RSE Adviser to help coordinate our employment processes and support the effective delivery of our RSE programme.

This is a varied, people-focused role combining human resources coordination, employment administration, RSE compliance, logistics and pastoral care. It would suit someone who is highly organised, culturally aware and comfortable balancing planned administrative work with the practical demands of a seasonal horticultural business.

About the role

Working closely with the General Manager, RSE Manager and wider management team, you will support employees and managers throughout the employment lifecycle.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating recruitment for permanent, fixed-term, casual, seasonal and RSE employees.

  • Preparing employment agreements, offer letters, variations, position descriptions and other employment documentation.

  • Coordinating employee onboarding, inductions, employment changes and offboarding.

  • Maintaining accurate and confidential personnel records, registers and workforce information.

  • Supporting managers with performance reviews, training and development, employee relations, attendance, leave and wellbeing matters.

  • Assisting with workplace concerns, performance and conduct processes, including meeting coordination, correspondence and recordkeeping.

  • Supporting people reporting, compliance reviews and improvements to employment processes.

  • Coordinating the recruitment and pre-departure requirements of RSE employees, including immigration, medical checks and international travel arrangements.

  • Managing RSE accommodation requirements, health insurance, banking, IRD registrations, driver licensing and related administration.

  • Providing practical pastoral care, including employee meetings, social activities, medical support and emergency contact assistance when required.

  • Coordinating Wai-West’s annual Application to Recruit and three-yearly RSE status application.

  • Helping organise company functions and employee engagement activities.

Some domestic and international travel will be required, along with occasional support outside normal working hours to respond to RSE pastoral-care needs.

About you

You will be a trusted and approachable professional who can develop effective relationships with people from a wide range of roles and cultural backgrounds.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • A relevant qualification in human resources, business administration or a related field, and/or at least five years’ relevant experience.

  • Experience in people coordination, HR administration or a comparable role.

  • Practical knowledge of New Zealand employment, privacy and immigration requirements, or the demonstrated ability to learn and apply them accurately.

  • Knowledge of the RSE programme or experience administering a programme involving similar compliance, logistical and pastoral-care responsibilities.

  • Experience preparing employment documentation and supporting recruitment, onboarding, performance and employee-relations processes.

  • Strong organisational skills and close attention to detail.

  • Sound judgement, discretion and the ability to handle confidential information appropriately.

  • Strong communication, relationship-building and problem-solving skills.

  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and maintaining reliable HR, payroll or workforce-management information.

  • A flexible, practical and solutions-focused approach.

  • A full New Zealand driver licence and willingness to travel when required.

Why join Wai-West?
